The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school.
The Young Marines promote the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The program emphasizes academic excellence, physical fitness, discipline, respect and personal responsibility. Young Marines learn new skills and ribbons in subjects like CPR, swimming, map reading, first aid, drug prevention, academic achievement, music, conservation, community service, physical fitness, military drill and much more.
Young Marines also earn rank based on their level of maturity and as experience in the program increases. As their rank increases, their level of responsibility increases as well.
The Young Marines is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts.
